What AssetCensus shows

AssetCensus shows legal entities that report a parent or a subsidiary to GLEIF, the Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation. GLEIF publishes the data of every Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) and of the parent relationships that entities report, free of charge and under the CC0 licence.

An entity is included when it is part of at least one active parent–subsidiary relationship in the GLEIF Golden Copy: as a subsidiary, as a direct parent or as an ultimate parent. Sole proprietors are excluded, so no page is about a private individual.

What a parent relationship means here

GLEIF parent data follows accounting consolidation: the direct parent is the closest entity that consolidates the subsidiary in its accounts, and the ultimate parent is the highest one. It is not a statement about shareholdings or voting rights, and the percentages shown are consolidation percentages reported to GLEIF.

When an entity does not report a parent, GLEIF records a reporting exception with a reason, for example that the entity is controlled by natural persons. AssetCensus shows the reason but never names a person.

Our own checks

Each page adds data-quality notes that come from AssetCensus analysis, not from GLEIF: a lapsed LEI (the data was not re-verified by its renewal date); a parent link based on accounts that end more than 24 months before the data release; a parent relationship record that was not renewed; an inactive entity that still has an active parent link; an inactive ultimate parent; an ultimate parent that differs from the one reported by the direct parent; and an exception that contradicts a reported parent.

A note is a prompt to check the source, not a finding that the entity has done anything wrong.

How the pages are written

Summaries are produced from the data with fixed sentence templates that were written and reviewed in English, German and French. No text is generated freely by a language model. Company names, register numbers and local legal-form names are shown as recorded and are not translated.

Every page states the GLEIF data release it is built from. Pages for entities that are no longer active, or whose LEI was retired, remain available but are not offered to search engines.

Additional sources

ISINs come from the GLEIF–ANNA ISIN-to-LEI mapping file, which covers ISINs issued since the mapping started; it does not list every security an entity has issued. Legal forms use the ISO 20275 code list and registers use GLEIF's list of registration authorities. Country names come from the Unicode CLDR.
